Friends around the World

Introduction
Friends around the world provided a framework in which children here in Ireland could link with children in other countries. These very important links between the future generations provided a great understanding and awareness of cultures, traditions and the day to day lives of one another.

Boys and girls aged 5 years to 12 years old
Goals and Learning Objectives
This is a very successful way in which to teach children about different cultures
Project Time
2 hours one day per week
Project Duration
September to December or January to June
Setting
Room required with desks and white/blackboard
Equipment
All necessary equipment, such as worksheets; will be supplied by tutors, children will need copybook and pencil
Tutor Requirements
One trained facilitator
Tutor Skill
Experienced working with young children and writing, editing, creative workshops
Budget and Cost Implications
The project proved to be very cost effective.
Project Event
Under a tutor the class put together a project which compared their lives here in Ireland with those of the peers in Grenada. It was a lovely colourful display and the overall experience for the children on both sides of the Atlantic was invaluable.
Project Outcome
It proved to be a fascinating insight in to the lives of the children through their own words.
